The Mustang Mach-E GT brings elevated performance to Ford’s electrified pony.
Carrying on in the tradition of many of its performance predecessors, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT not only sports improved acceleration and handling, but plenty of stopping power courtesy of big Brembo brakes. Dating back to the 1996 SVT Mustang Cobra, this company’s brakes have provided the stopping power to keep pace with the highest levels of Mustang performance. Designed specifically for EV applications, the company’s Flexira front brake calipers are designed to fit within tight confines and deliver improved rolling resistance, which is key in battery-powered vehicles.
“The Flexira offers significant reduction in mass compared to typical cast iron floating calipers. This significant reduction of the vehicle’s unsprung weight combined with the low drag advantage of the caliper design contributes to increased battery life by maximizing the vehicle’s dynamic efficiency through a reduction in rolling resistance,” Dan Sandberg, Brembo North America President and CEO, said. “In addition, the Brembo Flexira caliper will thrive under-foot of spirited drivers when going from 0-60 in 3.5-seconds with the GT Performance Edition.”
Manufactured using Brembo’s gravity cast technology then fortified with steel inserts, the robust four-piston Flexira caliper features 44mm pistons that clamp 385mm vented front rotors to slow an EV that produces a whopping 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds (3.5 seconds for the Performance Edition).
“We are glad to collaborate with Ford Motor Company on the next Mustang Mach-E model,” Sandberg added. “The all-aluminum red Brembo Flexira caliper will show nicely through the Mach-E’s impressive 20-inch machined-face aluminum wheels.”
