MONTHLY MUSTANGS

Canal Street cruise-in draws Mustangs of all eras to the Florida coast

When you think of a classic cruise in, do you envision a Main Street lined with local shops, a pharmacy with a soda fountain, and of course, a collection of muscular automobiles?

You don’t need a time machine to check out a setting like that. It happens once a month at the Canal Street Historic District in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Hosted on Canal Street on the second Saturday of every month by the East Coast Cruisers car club, this cruise-in attracts cars and trucks of all makes and models; It is even open to motorcycles. The street is blocked off to traffic for a few hours and all the local restaurants remain open during the event — including the Little Drug Company, a pharmacy with one of those classic soda fountain restaurants inside.

A black Fox rolling on skinny and wide Weld Draglites harkens back to a golden era of performance. This one sports a carbureted small-block under-hood supported by an MSD Ignition. With a big wing out back, it looks like it is ready to blast down the quarter-mile.

With all the makings of a classic cruise-in, we popped into the November 13, 2021 edition of the event and found a nice variety of Ford Mustangs on display for those in attendance. They are documented here in the gallery below, but if you happen to be on Florida’s East Coast this is a fun event to check out, as it attracts 200-500 cars on any given second Saturday.
