We all have fond memories of our first cars, even if the cars themselves weren't what we might have wanted at the time. For actress Lisa Bonet, known for her roles in TV’s Cosby Show and movies like Enemy of the State, that first car was pretty special. At 16 years old she purchased this 1965 Mustang convertible.
While it was certainly a dream car back then, the ensuing years had not treated it well, so it sat and fell into a state of disrepair. Like many barn finds, it was destined for a comeback, but this one would be special.
Bonet’s husband, actor Jason Momoa — who is known for his mega roles in the Game of Thrones series and big-screen movies like Aquaman — hatched a plan. He turned to Divine 1 Customs in Henderson, Nevada, to bring the car back better than ever, but do so in secret.
“This is a big dream come true, because this was my wife's first car,” Momoa said when he saw the revived droptop. “To be in this passenger seat with my wife here and surprise her and our babies in the back, riding in her first car when she was 17, I’m excited to see her face. It's come a long way.”
I know we can't relive a memory, but maybe we can rebuild one.
The difference was certainly night and day, but the goal was more than just reviving a classic pony car. The goal was to tap into the car’s nostalgic significance while setting the stage to create a whole new group of Mustang memories.
"I know we can't relive a memory, but maybe we can rebuild one," he added. When Momoa surprised his wife with the revived ride, she was certainly blown away as you can see in the video documenting its restoration and reveal.
“Not too flashy, but just enough,” Bonet enthused. "...It's beautiful... Holy cow!"
It is definitely true love when someone restores your car for you, especially your first car.
