Back in 1967, Carroll Shelby expanded his offering from the light Cobras and lithe GT350s to include the more aggressive 1967 Shelby GT500.
Living by the rule there is no substitute for larger displacement, the original GT500 was a true muscle car. In celebration of that lineage, Ford is offering the 2022 Shelby GT500 with an optional Heritage Edition package that recalls those first-gen GT500s.
Some 55 years later, the limited 2022 Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition pays homage to the car that Carroll once said was “the first real car I’m really proud of.” It does so with throwback Brittany Blue paint and a variety of stripe options. Painted over-the-top stripes, featuring a unique GT500 logo, can be had in retro Wimbledon White or Absolute Black.
While the man himself surely would have enjoyed more performance to go along with those appearance mods, the Heritage Editions are all about looks and limited availability. However, with 760 horsepower on tap and a high-tech, dual-clutch transmission harnessing that output, these machines already deliver the sort of performance that can challenge supercars.
