After a one-year break, the SEMA Show returns this week with an in-person event in Las Vegas.
As is tradition, Ford presents multiple displays on the property, showcasing more than 40 custom vehicles created for the show. Leaning heavily on its newest truck and SUV offerings, among these vehicles are five Mustangs, two of which are of the all-electric Mustang Mach-E variety.
Most significant among them is Shelby American’s first foray in the EV space with the Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT Concept (shown above). While the term "concept" is the operative word, this vehicle tests the waters of where the company might move next with its line of hotted-up Blue Oval offerings. It even carries a prestigious CSM badge, which places it in the Shelby Registry as an official member of Carroll’s automotive offspring.
With an aggressively widened appearance courtesy of aero-improving, graphene-infused carbon fiber bodywork, the Shelby Mach-E GT concept also benefits from a large hood vent to reduce front-end lift. It rides on a MagneRide suspension — calibrated by Shelby and upfit with carbon-fiber springs — and rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires wrapped around 20-inch one-piece Monoblock forged wheels. Inside, driver and passenger ride in Shelby-branded Recaro seats.
While its looks are sharp and aggressive, the output of Shelby’s Mach-E seemingly remains stock for now.
Next in the trio of modded Mach-Es is not another GT, but rather the longest-range model offered to date — a California Route One edition tuned-up by Neil Tjin.
Sure to draw attention with its bright orange paint and teal green accents, it rides low on an air suspension from Hoppo’s Suspension — part of which is on display in the frunk. With better stopping courtesy of BAER 6S six-piston front and rear big-brake kit and better traction thanks to Falken ZIEX S/TZ05 tires on 22-inch Vossen ML-R1 wheels, it is more than just a looker.
Interestingly the Tjin Mach-E also features custom solar panels on top and down the back that power a teal green RayVolt USA electric bicycle mounted to a Thule e-bike rack.
As we noted, gas-powered Mustangs also command some real estate in the Ford display. Not to be outdone by his brother Neil, Gene Tjin created this All-Star Mustang EcoBoost High-Performance Edition.
Complementing the Tjin Mach-E, this EcoBoost pony features a custom teal green paint scheme from South County Auto Body with white and orange accents. The paint lays over an Anderson Composites body kit, which rides just right over the Falken FK510 tires and Vossen LC2-A1 wheels thanks to an air suspension. The performance side this project benefits from a COBB Tuning intercooler, a COBB Tuning cold air intake, and Baer brakes.
Giving it a splash of Cali-cool are a Katzkin white leather interior and Almond surfboards on a roof rack.
Last but surely not least, a 2021 Mustang GT joins the fun. Fitted with the Performance Package, this 5.0-powered ride is painted with a Motorcraft livery and boosted to 750 horsepower via a Ford Performance Parts TVS supercharger. M2 also dug into the FPP parts bin for heavy-duty halfshafts, GT350R front brakes, Mach 1 caster/camber plates, and a Performance Pack Level 2 front splitter to round out the GT’s capabilities.
It puts the power down with 305/30R19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires on 19-inch GT350 wheels at all four corners. Meanwhile, on the inside, it is dolled-up with a laser-etched armrest, Recaro RPSP leather seats, GT500 instrument panel trim, and a Ford Performance carbon-fiber shift knob.
Along with these custom ponies, Ford also shows off its own electric demonstrators, the Ford Performance Mustang Mach-E 1400 and Cobra Jet 1400.
