The top-shelf 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT won’t hit the streets until the end of next summer, but buyers can already amplify its performance with the optional Performance Edition. Checking this box enhances performance, handling, and braking. Notably, however, this option trades a bit of range for more torque and quicker acceleration.
Motivated by an all-wheel-drive powertrain featuring two permanent-magnet motors drawing current from an 88-kWh battery, the Mach-E GT Performance Edition picks up an additional 34 lb-ft of torque to top out a 634. As such, it rips from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds, down from 3.8 seconds for the standard GT package. To do so, its range drops from 250 miles for the GT to 235 miles for the Performance Edition.
“We already pushed the envelope by creating an electric vehicle with the pony badge, so it’s only natural that we push it even further,” Darren Palmer, global director, battery electric vehicles, Ford Motor Company, said. “Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition not only gives you the added performance you expect from the GT name, but accentuates the thrill with the responsiveness of an all-electric powertrain.”
More than just a charged-up powertrain, the Performance Edition also adds a MagneRide suspension for dynamically-adjustable handling. The suspension plants the power via Ebony Black 20-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli 245/45R20 summer tires. When it’s time to throw out the anchor, this package benefits from 19-inch front brakes clamped by Brembo calipers.
Keeping the driver and front seat passenger planted during acceleration and deceleration, the Performance Edition features Ford Performance-sculpted front seats covered in Performance Gray ActiveX material accented by metallic stitching and perforated Miko reflective inserts. Even if you already reserved a Mach-E GT, you can add the Performance Edition package when you place your order next spring.
