You might recall that over the years ROUSH Performance released a series of specialty Mustangs themed after the pony car’s aeronautical inspiration — the P-51 Mustang. As it turns out, company namesake Jack Roush is an airplane enthusiast and pilot. He combined those loves with the ROUSH P-51A and P-51B, the latter of which was offered for sale back in the S197 era.
“The 2009 ROUSH P-51B is the closest thing we can do to truly match the performance and styling of the fighter plane,” Roush said back then. “Just like the airplane, the P-51BMustang has the power to outrun most anything, can turn like virtually nothing else, and will make those other 'pilots' have second thoughts before engaging in a skirmish.”
In 2017, the ROUSH P-51 returned as the company’s most powerful post-title offering to date, but since then the aeronautical stallion flew away. That is until Mr. Roush charged his team with creating a modern-day version for his flight plan.
“When Jack says he’s ready to recreate the 2017 ROUSH P-51 Mustang with our latest Stage 3 components, we quickly pulled together the A-Team!” the company said. “From our design studio to our finest engineers, we came together with the influence of Jack and created the P-51B.”
Now, you justifiably might be wondering if this one-off creation might kick the tires and light the fires on a modern-day version of the ROUSH P-51 for the rest of us.
“This build is Jack’s personal vehicle, 1 of 1,”the company added. “Unless…should we bring back the P-51?”
As such, we wouldn’t be surprised to see aproduction version of his personal ride flying down the highway in the future.
